Projects

So, I've always loved abstract art. The work of artists such as Willem de Kooning and Piet Mondrian (to name just two) has always intrigued me. In this ongoing project I'm constantly on the lookout for the abstract in the everyday (often mundane) objects and places. It's shapes, textures and colours that I attempt to capture. Anything that looks a little painterly really floats my boat.

03 Beautiful Things (A phone camera project)

So, I've decided that my first phone camera project is now complete. It is a project born out of boredom, during a slow period at the day job (it helps keep the bills paid). I was mooching around the factory, looking for something to occupy my time and keep me from mischief. Whilst rumaging through the tool station, my eye was caught by a set of dowl punches (at least I think that's what they are) they are beautifully engineered items with brass coloured handles.

I decided to set them up on the workbench and using the HD Camera App, on my humble Motorola G9 Play, I took a shot. I opened the photograph in the Snapseed app and played around with the various pre sets (such as grainy film options, vignettes and exposure) I was quite taken with the results and in that moment my phone camera project was conceived.

I shot quite a lot of random objects I uncovered in the tool box and cupboards around the factory, as well as the works forklift truck, I edited all of them on my phone in Snapseed and then whittled the images down to a nice round 50 that I present here for your scrutiny. I hope you enjoy looking at these images as much as I enjoyed creating them.

Recently I've been revisiting some of my earliest digital images, taken when I was first dipping my proverbial toe in the digital photography world. Here I've reworked some images of Venice in black and white. I shot all of these images on a Fuji Finepix S7000 and did the black and white conversions in Serif Photoplus X8 Software.

An ongoing project to digitise my negative and slide archive. Images captured the old fashioned way. All the images here were shot on 35mm Negative or Slide film and scanned with a PrimeFilm 3600 Pro using Vuescan Software.
