The Analogue Archives
01 Swinging Little Guitar Man
These images were shot on Ilford FP4 35mm negative back in the 90s. I used my Rolleiflex 35LE (or was it LE35 I can't quite remember now). I scanned the original negatives on a PrimeFilm PF3600 Pro using VueScan software. So further investigation of my Negative Archives resulted in rediscovering more images from a 90s assignment for the art and design course I was on at the time. The brief called for images of a still life that the student was allowed to set up at their own discretion. I turned to my acoustic guitar for inspiration along with a bottle of Jack Daniels. The premiss of a singer/songwriter seeking inspiration in a bottle, was probably already a cliché even back in the 90s, but I remember being quite pleased with the results.
03 Sweet Moriah Concert
So these images of the band Sweet Moriah were shot on the 22 March 1985, at the Railway Inn, in Curzon Street, Birmingham. I know the precise date because I have a recording of the show on cassette tape that lists the date on the cover along with set list.

Shot on Ilford HP5 I had never shot anything like this before. The fluctuating lighting conditions made exposure settings a bit of a lottery, but I think I managed to capture the excitement of the event all the same. This selection was scanned from the original black and white negatives on my PrimeFilm 3600 Pro.

02 Barry Island Steam Engine Breakers Yard
These images were shot in the early 1980s at Barry Island in Wales. The breakers yard at that time was full of rusting old hulks of the distant steam age. I only got these few shots at the end of a roll of safety film. I can't recall if I shot these on my Praktica MTL3 which I was using into the 80s or my Rolleiflex 35LE, which I acquired around that time, well it was 40 years ago.
04 Fire Damaged Building
Between 1980 and 1982 I was attending a course at Solihull College of Technology (Advertising and Visual Communications), Photography was one of the modules. One day the Photography tutor handed out Pentax SLRs and sent the students out on a field trip to capture images. Two of my best friends and I took the bus to Birmingham city centre and scouted round for things to shoot.

We stumbled on this fire damaged building in a back street. The images here are scanned from the original black and white negatives.
